Grand Canyon Performing Arts
In the Fall of 1990, a steering committee was formed to establish a new men’s choral group in the Phoenix area. A small promotional group began rehearsing and making appearances during the holiday season to recruit additional members. The Grand Canyon Men’s Chorale was officially established in January 1991 under the artistic direction of Ron Casola. In 2002, Marc Gaston was appointed as Artistic Director of Grand Canyon Men’s Chorale. Under Marc’s direction, the group doubled in size and was transformed from simply a recital-style group to a “show chorus.” Featured performances include costuming, staging and orchestration. With this expansion, the flagship chorus was renamed “Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus” in 2006. Two small ensembles – Canyon Echoes and Harmonic Vibrations – were added to the mix, and in 2007 an instrumental group – the Philharmonic Ensemble – was launched.
Performance highlights have included: International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, Equality Arizona Annual Gala, World AIDS Day, National anthem performed at Phoenix Suns games and AGRA Rodeo, and benefit performances for PFLAG, Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, and The Trevor Project.
PMMC has performed or collaborated with many local and national artists and organizations, including: Arizona Women In Tune, Desert Voices, Reveille Gay Men’s Chorus, Folk singer Holly Near, Comedians Leslie Jordan and Margaret Cho, and the Forever Young Dancers.
PMMC is a member of GALA Choruses (the International Gay & Lesbian Association of Choruses), and has participated in six GALA Festivals: Tampa, FL (1996), San Jose, CA (2000), Seattle, WA (2002), Montreal, Canada (2004), Miami, FL (2008), and Denver, CO (2012).
Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus
The Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus is the flagship of Grand Canyon Performing Arts and presents a full subscription concert series. All members of the Chorus are dues paying volunteers who donate over 32,000 hours annually to rehearsals, service projects and as many benefit performances as we can pack in.
The Chorus was originally a recital choir and has grown into a “show chorus.” Featured performances include costuming, staging, video productions, dance, and orchestration. Performance highlights have included: International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, Equality Arizona Annual Gala, World AIDS Day, National Anthem performed at Phoenix Suns games and AGRA Rodeos, and benefit performances for PFLAG and Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS. Canyon Echoes is the small ensemble of 20 singers that is a significant component of Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus. Canyon Echoes has a mission, which is identical to that of the full chorus: To Unite, Inspire, Educate, and Entertain our diverse audiences.
Canyon Echoes acts as ambassadors of Grand Canyon Performing Arts. These talented singers spread our musical message and artistry at many functions across our valley where the entire chorus can not go. Their performances range from classical recital style concerts to full blown stage shows.
The singers who make up Canyon Echoes are completely dedicated to their art. They work very hard to master their craft – rehearsing countless hours in addition to full chorus rehearsals. They all feel their time and energy is well worth the effort. And the Chorus is much richer for having this kind of dedication from this fantastic group of men.
Omaggio Youth Chorus
